A quick and handy guide to people who have just joined, are considering joining, or have been members for a while and just want a quick refresher of anything. :D

What is X-gen?

X-Gen is a fancy pants Tegaki roleplay based on the Marvel X-men universe. Characters are non-canon unless they aren't -- meaning you cannot be Wolverine, Xavier or any of the other ESTABLISHED characters UNLESS you get permission from the mods -- and we're hot shit.

We like story and characters and plot. What this means is that if Mutant Cindy attacks the president, Cindy will be hunted down by the FBI and other mutant haters AND it will also affect how other mutants are treated (as big mutant attacks are treated as terrorist attacks). In all honesty, you can think of it like you're writing an improv version of the actual comic. 8D

How does X-gen compare to other Tegaki Groups?

X-Gen is more story/continuity driven than the typical tegaki rp. RPing still revolves around situation based threads, but they are more contingent upon the story and world as a whole instead of as singular events. Our group emphasizes the cause and effect of character actions, as well as the relationship between individual and the world they live in. We have an active chatroom that we use for thread discussion (as well as unrelated chat) that keeps our group tight knit and friendly. Feel free to drop in whenever and there will probably be someone in there either lurking or hanging out :D

Our RPers tend to be dedicated long-term players, so don't be surprised if your RP goes on for weeks/months. Our really good ones span 7 pages and up! As a result, if you're coming here looking for fast romance or highschool style rp, you will likely be disappointed.

How does X-gen compare to non-Tegaki RPs?

For people who come from a non-tegaki background, X-Gen is a drawing-based rp. Each post is like a panel in a comic and the setting, character description, emotions, and motion are all shown rather than described. Time is also somewhat strange in X-Gen, since multiple points in the story can be being RPed simultaneously. Once you get used to it, it's not too hard to keep up, but it's suggested you join only a few threads at a time with a particular character so you don't get too confused about their personal continuity.

In a sense, we're storyboarding out episodes in our X-Gen series, each thread is an episode which contains various quantities of humor and seriousness, depending on the thread ;D. We try to keep things light and fun altogether, but we do enjoy delving into some more DRAMU situations.

Watch the canon tag, since all posts within it are part of the story, and particularly watch out for Mod posts, since they often present advances in the storyline, group events, or other important announcements.

A Brief Summary of the X-Gen Story

With Professor X in a coma, Wolverine has taken command of the X-MEN. Landis Sullivan - one of the institutes mutant professors - has turned out to be a governmental spy for a secret anti-mutant organization. With his help, a number of the X-Men (along with various neutral mutants and brotherhood members) were taken and experimented on in a secluded prison/lab in Nevada.

With Magneto's help, the X-Men and Brotherhood groups joined forces to rescue the kidnapped individuals while a simultaneous and separate operation was being undertaken by a group of mutants from Johan "Doc" Shuler's "Slum Hotel" group led by Mariska Morevna and Doc himself. Nearly destroying the complex in the process, all the captured mutants have been freed along with the dangerous mutant known as "Juggernaut."

Finally things are returning to a state of relative normalcy after approximately a year of chaos. The X-Men are slowly re-adjusting to their everyday school life with the weight of the recent events pressing at them. The Brotherhood base has been airlifted and moved to a more secure location by Magneto after Jack Damin's betrayal and the subsequent raid. The Slum Hotel is currently abandoned and the displaced mutants are scattered to some extent, but largely crowding into Doc's personal apartment elsewhere.

For current events and activities within the plot, here's a list of currently active threads. Feel free to add in threads to it, since it helps get more players in your thread and it helps the mods keep track of the storyline. :D

Concise Rules

-don't kill people without consulting the mods (and the owner of the character you'd like to kill...of course..)

-don't be a douchebag (Deni: Word.)

-only 3 characters can have redundant powers -- Be sure to keep an eye on the Powers List so we don't have a billion people with the exact same power.

-be contactable - we are an organic communicating group. We like to hear about big new plans and just generally getting to know and derp with our members!

-only 3 characters per player

also, don't rp out graphic sex scenes or anything. gosh.

Character Creation

So, if you understand the rules then it's time to start thinking of a character!

Given that this is an X-Men rp, it's likely that you will want to think about various Powers your character might have and - since this is a visual game - what Suits they might be wearing. Remember that the character is more than just the mutations that make them though. ;D For examples of what other people have done, check out the Member Profiles!

The X-Gen universe is divided into a number of "sides," so to speak. While they may seem obviously "good/evil" at a glance, please remember that they are what they are due to their members' individual morals, philosophies and goals. The team does not make the person, the people make the team, so to speak.

     The sides:

X-Men: Undercover vigilantes bound together for survival, respect for human life, and a desire to get stronger. Lead by Wolverine.

The Brotherhood: Undercover vigilantes bound together out of a common disrespect towards non-mutants. Lead by Magneto.

Neutrals: Unaligned mutants currently caught in the crossfire. (Neutrals will have less mod-direction in general, so you'll have to find your own trouble quite frequently.)

     The Slum Hotel: A fairly unknown haven for neutral mutants and morlocks. Run by Johan Shular ("Doc"). currently out of commission.

Morlocks: Mutants who are too physically mutated to function in society. Often found living in underground passageways or in abandoned buildings like the Slum Hotel.

Humans: This is a race. Human does not define personality.

How to Use the Wiki

To use this wiki, first sign up for pbwiki (it's a fairly painless and fast process, don't worry), then hit the "request access" button up in the top right or something. A mod should accept you within the day, but if they're online (check the chat!), then feel free to poke them to allow access.

The next step is probably to make a character page. Either copy the formatting from the template or from another character's page, then hit "Create a Page". Title it with your character's full name (ex: Edgar Wends) and paste in the formatting. Replace all the info with details pertinent to your character, and then whine to someone if you break something. :D One of us will be glad to help you out if you can't figure out how to use the site!
